Neonatal thyroxine binding globulin (N-TBG) testing is an emerging area of newborn screening used when Neonatal T4 values are found to be low as an additional step in hypothyroidism diagnosis. The analysis of Neonatal TBG is relevant for the proper treatment of abnormal thyroid patients.
Currently the product is being used exclusively in the Netherlands by the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment in the Prenatal Screening Division. The importance of the assay in neonatal testing may be shaped by this group's work.
